Rent-A-Thug #192 – King of the Streets part 22

It took me a long time to come up with what exactly Johnny Mushface was going to say in the third panel. Most of the earlier versions involved a lot of swearing that kind of broke the tone of the comic. The first part of the line was easy enough, but how to word what he was thinking was a stumbling block. I’m not completely happy with it, but it accomplishes what it needs to and I think it’s relatively funny, so it works.

I haven’t talked about the painting in the Rent-A-Thug boss’ office, which unfortunately isn’t on this page. It’s based on a painting from World War One called “The Red Air Fighter” by J.A. Turnbull. It’s not really an attempt to replicate that painting so much as to evoke elements of it, which is probably just as good because that painting is really freaking complicated just to look at, let alone try to replicate.

I almost can’t believe that I’ve done 22 pages of King of the Streets so far. It doesn’t feel like I’ve been working on it for that long.

See you Friday, thanks for reading!
