Post the first
Friday, August 31st, 2007Yep. First post on here. Still figuring out this whole ComicPress thing, but so far it hasn’t sent me into a Charlie No-Aim-esque fit of lead-pipe-swinging rage. Which is, y’know, a good thing.
Yep. First post on here. Still figuring out this whole ComicPress thing, but so far it hasn’t sent me into a Charlie No-Aim-esque fit of lead-pipe-swinging rage. Which is, y’know, a good thing.
I think I’ve got the hang of this whole ComicPress thing. I still have to figure out how to set up separate archives for separate comics (so I can get the Frank Baron, NSO stuff on here as well), but I’m not overly concerned about that.
As I’m updating the site I’m listening to Black Metal by Ill Bill, which I found by accident while looking for some other CDs that, unsurprisingly, weren’t in stock. So far it’s pretty solid, and the beats are pretty wicked. Me likey.
Yes, in an effort to expand the internetorial dominance of Rent-A-Thug, I’ve signed up for www.buzzcomix.net. Charlie No-Aim has a lead pipe that thinks you should go there and vote for Rent-A-Thug. :p Seriously though, if you like the comic (and if you’re reading this you probably do) you should drop by and vote for it so that you can bring the joy of Rent-A-Thug to even more people and I can expand my extortion business… er, webcomic. I mean webcomic. You didn’t hear nothin’ ’bout no extortion.
Just click the button already and I don’t have to call Charlie No-Aim.
Remember those prints I mentioned a while back? Well I’ve got them all scanned up and ready for viewing!
Both of these will be available for sale at Pure Speculation, along with Rent-A-Thug baseball caps. Pictures of those should be up fairly soon.
Some of you may recall me mentioning having hats made for sale at Pure Speculation, but I’ve finally got images of them for the site! The hats are high quality and will retail for $25-$30 (I haven’t decided on a price point yet).
I just thought I’d point out that I’ve added a new section to the site, which can be found on the right hand navigation bar. The Mug Shots/Rap Sheets section is essentially the character bio section, but in a format more suitable to Rent-A-Thug. Charlie No-Aim and G-Fresh are the only bios posted right now, but I’m planning to update it as new characters appear in the stories. As of this post my current list of additions includes Rastovich, Captain Impressive, Frank Baron, and Herschal Schultz, among others.
Also, arguably more importantly, I’m moving to a new update schedule. I’ve achieved my goal of bulking up the site’s content to make it worth repeat visits, and I plan on continuing to do that but at a slightly slower pace. I’ve been swamped with university work and other obligations lately and it’s been preventing me from doing as much comic work as I’d like to be doing. Because of this I’m going to move to a three-a-week update schedule, with Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as the update days. I’m also in the process of reducing my non-school obligations so that I can free up more time to work on a Rent-A-Thug print book (tentatively titled First Offence) and putting pencil to paper on some new Rent-A-Thug short stories.
Whew, that was a relatively long one. Check out the Mug Shots/Rap Sheets section and I’ll see you tomorrow with another Rules For Criminal Success strip.
I’m in the process of getting an online store up and running so that I can sell the hats and prints shown previously online, which should be done in the next few days or so.
I’ve also added a link button for the Webcomic List underneath the buzzComix vote button (which, by the way, you should all use to vote for Rent-A-Thug. Just sayin’.). I signed up for the Webcomic List sort of on a whim and it turned out to be an incredibly fruitful sign-up, as Rent-A-Thug is, as of this post, ranked #110 on their top list. Which is freaking sweet. I’d like to give a big thanks to the folks at the Webcomic List and the people who catapulted Rent-A-Thug through the rankings so quickly, as well as any of you who may have come to the site from there.
Entirely unrelatedly, I’ve recently had some illustration assignments for the Gateway that I’m planning on uploading to the site shortly. Neither of them use the Rent-A-Thug art style, and both are in colour! Holy crap!
I’ve created a new Illustrations page to house the stuff I’ve been doing for the Gateway Illustration department. I’ve uploaded the first one, titled “The Russian Bear: Soulless Killing Machine”. Enjoy!
I’ll be back tomorrow with a Halloween update.
I updated the Illustration section with a new image. This one is a space battle done for an article about the “new space race”. Check it out.
The Mug Shots/Rap Sheets section has been updated with profiles for Dirk the Head and Rastovich. You can check it out by clicking on the Mug Shots/Rap Sheets link in the sidebar.
I’ll be back tomorrow with another comic.
