Rent-A-Thug #220 – Two Crooks, a Croc, and a Fine Pair of Shoes part 6

I had fun drawing this page. I went into it with the goal of trying to get a nice variety of angles, since there isn’t a lot of action. The light effect in the last panel was kind of fun, since I tend not to do a lot of that sort of thing. Croc Head’s first appearance (of this story, I know he’s popped up at least once in the Rules For Criminal Success strips), and pretty much defines his personality in one sentence. I’ve never really cared for the origins of most supervillains (most of which boil down to “horrible accident/other tragedy, then they rob liquor stores and hate everyone”), which is why I’ve never bothered to come up with them for the supervillains in Rent-A-Thug. That and the fact that their purpose isn’t to be a credible threat to the protagonist, but instead to be a bully and a crappy employer. You don’t really need an angst-filled hate-machine for that; a weird-looking bastard fits the bill nicely. So far Croc Head and the Shock Therapist have been featured in stories (Shock Therapist’s story is only available in the First Offence comic).

Because I forgot to mention it when I posted it, Wednesday’s page had a reference to Walt’s daughter having a thing. That thing is in fact the subject of this story. They’re designed to be combined when they go to print form to make that connection more explicit (since web-wise, Walt’s story was posted several months ahead of this one).

Have a good weekend! Thanks for reading and I’ll see you on Monday!
