Rent-A-Thug #207 – King of the Streets part 37

Large areas of black always seem like such a good idea until I have to sit down and ink them. I’m still in the stone age where things are inked with pens instead of computrons, so the black background in the last panel took a good long while. My .08 and .01 pens got a good workout on this page, too. I use the .08 to do the big areas of black and the .01 to do the letters and thin lines, which in this case was pretty much the entirety of the first two panels.

I don’t think I’ve used Centre Park before (I know it was mentioned earlier in this story, but I don’t think it was ever actually shown). I think the reference in the name is pretty self-explanatory. Hopefully I’ll find ways to use it more in the future, since it’s a nice change of pace from the weathered brick and battered masonry.

Pope Julius’ hat is hard to draw in perspective. I’ve never been overly concerned with being 100% accurate with perspective, but that hat was a pain. Most of the time when perspective is off a little bit it’s not noticeable unless you’re looking for it, but that hat just looked completely bizarre. It still kind of does, but it was worse before.

Thanks for reading, see you Friday!

The hat looks perfect, Jeff. I think you’re being too critical. I like it. I also thought Pope Julius is pretty darn cool. Too bad he’s dead now. Ha ha.
