Rent-A-Thug #185 – King of the Streets part 15

I got to draw a lot of gross things on this page, which were kind of fun. I had considered just using blood on Mushface’s mug, but I decided that it would look more burn-y if it was black. It also looks a lot goopier that way. Chuck D being shredded by gunfire is, strange as it sounds, not as disgusting as it could have been.

Johnny Mushface is a lot more resilient in this sequence than I usually make my characters (though Charlie No-Aim takes quite a bit of abuse in Protection Rackets & Head Trauma). There’s a reason for that, though. A lot of the characters in Rent-A-Thug are hard cases; Charlie No-Aim is a belligerent, abrasive goon who can absorb and dish out punishment, Rastovich is a stone-cold mass-murderer, G-Fresh is a swaggering drug-pusher. And Johnny Mushface is the one in charge, that keeps everyone in line. This story is, in large part, about Johnny Mushface making his reputation as a criminal kingpin, and part of that is being tougher, meaner, and smarter than the competition. In this case, in a completely over-the-top fashion.

Also, Pure Speculation is this weekend. Come say hi!

Thanks for reading, see you Wednesday! And Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!
