Rent-A-Thug #68 – Rules For Criminal Success #20
As an interesting (to me, anyway) preface to today’s post I’d like to point out that I’m posting this page from my new laptop. I’m not quite sure if it’ll work, but as far as I can tell there’s no reason why it shouldn’t.
This page was inspired (okay, ripped off is probably more accurate) by the song “Battle Cry” by Army of the Pharaohs, specifically Celph Titled’s verse near the end of the track. I changed the name of the machine gun to MK 500 to better fit into the naming scheme of weapons in the Rent-A-Thug universe, but other than that and the last line (“especially MK 500s”) the rest of the text is pretty much straight out of the song. The MK 500 is basically the machine gun-sized model of the MK-35 assault rifle (which has both appeared and been mentioned by name in Frank Baron, NSO). Most of the weapons used in the comic actually have names. In this comic, specifically, the “nine” is a .38 Micro, the “forty-five” is a .45 Hardliner, and the “three-five-seven” is a .44 Eagle Magnum. This page was also kind of hard to stage since I needed to fit an establishing shot and the four different weapons as well as the introductory panel. I think it turned out fairly well, though.
Well I’m headed back to the drawing board (literally) to crank out some more pages, although it looks like my personal projects probably won’t get done until after the rest of the pages for Children Are Cruel get finished. Ah well, at least I had time to pencil part of another Rules For Criminal Success strip. Rastovich in a murder frenzy is fun to draw.
Thanks for reading and have a good weekend, I’ll be back with more on Monday.
